I have spent a week visiting with my family, so there hasn’t been that much reading time this week. I have forsaken it for hanging out, having laughs, eating good foods. I have been sneaking in some reading time early in the morning and right after everyone goes to bed for the evening.I’m in the middle of two books right now and I just finished up Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass, which I really enjoyed. Since time is so limited these days by various commitments, I have been giving quite a bit of thought to the books I plan to give my attention. I have been feeling the pull for some books on the creepy/scary/supernatural spectrum – so the plan is to look around and see what I have that fits the bill.
Right now I am about fifty pages away from finishing Mother, Mother by Koren Zailckas and it’s a clever novel, definitely one that I would recommend. I have had some suspicions since the middle of the book on what I think happened in this troubled family and I am anxious to see 1) if I was right, and 2) how all of their drama will be resolved.
I’m also reading an advance e-galley of Christoper Rice’s The Heavens Rise. It takes place in New Orleans, it involves the supernatural and a family that vanishes mysteriously. This is an interesting read because it looks as if Rice will be exploring aspects of race relations in the town. It also alternates between present day and the months leading up to Hurricane Katrina.
As I mentioned on Friday, one of my next reads will be Lauren Grodstein’s The Explanation for Everything with BOOK CLUB and Jen. This will be my first time reading Grodstein, as I missed her last one, A Friend of the Family, which received rave reviews from many bloggers I trust. It’s one of the reasons that it is still sitting and waiting patiently on my shelf.
With that, I’m off to do a little reading before enjoying the glorious day that is today. Does anyone have any creepy book recommendations or plans to do some reading in that vein? I’d love to hear them.
