Each year, one of our favorite sessions at Book Expo is the Editor’s Buzz Books session, where editors from major publishers share upcoming releases that they are most excited about. The books are selected by a panel, and the publishers present the books with some context about how their publication came to be. Then there is a wild swarm in the back of the room as everyone rushes to grab galleys.
This year, the books were promising, and the stampede at the end was more orderly than in previous years. So, overall, a great session!
Here are the books:
Maid by Stephanie Land – non-fiction memoir about a young mother in Montana trying to get by while working as a house cleaner. (Hachette, December 2018)
The Real Lolita: The Kidnapping of Sally Horner and The Novel That Scandalized The World by Sarah Weinman – the real-life story of a kidnapping of a teenage girl (which inspired the writing of Nabokov’s Lolita) (Ecco, September 2018)
There Will Be No Miracles Here by Casey Gerald – a memoir about the author’s coming of age in Texas and his inner conflict upon arriving at Yale and working on Wall Street (Riverhead Books, October 2018)
She Would Be King by Wayetu Moore – a novel about Liberia told through three different characters (Graywolf Press, September 2018)
Small Animals: Parenting In The Age Of Fear by Kim Brooks – non-fiction about “fearful parenting” and how paralyzing it can make parents when it comes to raising children (Flatiron Books, August 2018)
Ohio by Stephen Markley – fiction set in post-9/11 Rust Belt about four former classmates returning to their hometown (Simon & Schuster, August 2018)
These all look good, but we am most excited about Maid and Ohio. And Lolita is one of my (Gayle’s) favorite books ever, so I will be sure to look at The Real Lolita as well.
