Cocktail Hour: Refresh Yourself With A Coffee Tonic

Coffee Tonic

Cocktail Hour has happily explored cocktails (and the books that make them even better!), but sometimes what we crave is a refreshing beverage sans alcohol. In those moments, we pair coffee with tonic water for an unexpectedly delicious twist on an iced coffee.

While the original recipe calls for a shot of espresso, there is no reason why you can’t take half a cup of coffee (something on the strong side), pour it into a tall glass, add ice, then top with tonic water. The sweetness of the tonic will take care of the need for sugar. We’d advise against adding milk as bubbly milk is less than appealing (trust us, it isn’t good).

Experiment with your favorite coffee blends and before you know it this drink will find its way into your daily rotation of coffee beverages.

Literary Pairing

This easy drinking beverage would be best with those modern reads that beg to be read in as few sittings as possible. Think Jonathan Tropper’s This Is Where I Leave You; Tom Rachman’s The Imperfectionists; or Lydia Davis’ most recent collection of short stories, Can’t and Won’t.
